PSY has set another record for his viral “Gangnam Style” music video!
On November 26 at about 8 a.m. KST, the “Gangnam Style” music video passed 3 billion views on YouTube, becoming the first Korean music video to do so. The music video previously reached two billion views back in 2014.
Since its release on July 15, 2012, the catchy song and fun music video received a lot of love worldwide that resulted in multiple parodies, coverage by international media outlets, new records, and awards.
In 2012, PSY received the award for Best Music Video at the MTV Europe Music Awards and the New Media Award at the American Music Awards. In 2015, PSY received the Diamond Play Button from YouTube for reaching 10 million subscribers on his official YouTube channel.
PSY’s “Gentleman” MV hit 1.1 billion views in 2013, while “Daddy” and “Hangover” hit 300 million views in September. As a result, PSY currently has six videos with over 100 million views on YouTube.
To commemorate the event, PSY tweeted an image of his character doing the famous “horse dance” with a message of gratitude.
