"The Handmaiden" Becomes 1st Korean Film Ever To Win At BAFTA Film Awards

Director Park Chan Wook’s film “The Handmaiden” has won at the 2018 British Academy Film Awards!

As an annual event held by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the awards ceremony celebrates the achievements made in the film industry each year. This year’s festivities were held on February 18 (local time) at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

“The Handmaiden” has now become the first Korean film to win an award at the BAFTA film awards. Also the first Korean film to be nominated for the awards, the film was nominated for the Best Film Not in the English Language category and was up against “Elle,” “First They Killed My Father,” “Loveless,” and “Salesman.”

Park Chan Wook and the cast were not at the events, and they are set to receive their BAFTA trophy at a later date.

“The Handmaiden” is a film that is based on the novel “Fingersmith” and tells the story of a Japanese heiress who has inherited a fortune and a handmaiden hired by a man who wishes to steal her wealth. The cast included Kim Min Hee, Kim Tae Ri, Ha Jung Woo, and Jo Jin Woong.
