Kim Jung Hyun Criticized For Behavior At "Time" Press Conference
Actor Kim Jung Hyun has become the center of attention after the press conference for MBC’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama “Time,” held on July 20.
Kim Jung Hyun attended the press conference along co-stars Seohyun, Kim Jun Han, and Hwang Seung Eon. Throughout the event, Kim Jung Jung Hyun largely remained expressionless.
When a reporter asked if he wasn’t feeling well, the actor explained that it was because he’s trying to stay in character.
Kim Jung Hyun plays the character Cheon Soo Ho in “Time,” the flawless son of a conglomerate family.
He said, “Both on and off set, I’m trying to live my entire life like Cheon Soo Ho. No matter the situation, whether I’m sleeping, or in between activities in the car, I’m trying to keep the person named Kim Jung Hyun from coming out and making any decisions.”
Kim Jung Hyun said it’s something he does for other roles, as well. “I usually stay very close to the characters I’m playing. I don’t know what the end result will be like, but I’m putting all my energy into working with these three actors. Rather than me having a hard time personally, because of the emotions of my character, my life is now leaning toward [Cheon Soo Ho’s]. But I have to overcome this and do well. I’m doing everything I can so that I can do my best.”
Toward the end of the press conference, Kim Jung Hyun, tearing up, said, “This character has taken over a lot of my life. I’m thinking a lot about what it is to immerse onself into a character, and how that feels.”
When a following V Live broadcast for the drama was canceled, a source from O& Entertainment, Kim Jung Hyun’s agency, stated that it was due to changes in the actors’ schedules, and that they had also just heard the news.
However, criticisms did not abate, with opinions persisting that the actor’s attitude at an event to introduce the drama was inappropriate.
Eventually, O& Entertainment explained further, “Because [Kim Jung Hyun] is spending a lot of time thinking about his character, immersing himself into the life of someone terminally ill every day, he had difficulty maintaining his [physical and mental] condition, and unintentionally made a mistake. Kim Jung Hyun himself is also flustered by what happened today, and is apologetic to his fellow actors as well as everyone involved.”
“Time” is a drama about a man who is running out of time and puts everything on the line to help a woman whose life was ruined because of him. It airs on July 25 at 10 p.m. KST on MBC, and will be available on Viki.
