MAMAMOO Prevails With "Egotistic"; Soompi's K-Pop Music Chart 2018, August Week 1

There was a lot of changes on the chart this week as we have four new songs in the top five, and the battle for No. 1 was very competitive! In the end, MAMAMOO prevailed with their new song “Egotistic,” moving up 10 spots to become our new No. 1 song. Despite only winning on “The Show,” “Egotistic” is the most consistent song on the chart, having ranked high on all chart sources, enabling MAMAMOO to win a close battle against other challengers. Congratulations to MAMAMOO!

“Egotistic” is the title song of MAMAMOO’s seventh mini-album “RED MOON.” This song incorporates the reggae genre with an impressive Latin guitar riff that brings up the image of a passionate summer. The lyrics describe a selfish lover who takes care of himself first, and MAMAMOO’s intense vocals increase the appeal of this song.

Last week’s champion, TWICE’s “Dance The Night Away,” dropped one spot to No. 2. This song still managed to win again on “Inkigayo” last week.

Moving up 12 spots to No. 3 is SEVENTEEN’s “Oh My!” This is the title track from SEVENTEEN’s fifth mini-album “YOU MAKE MY DAY.” It is an up-tempo song with a swing rhythm that talks about the feeling of excitement that cannot be put into words, except to say “Oh My!” This song won three music programs last week on “Music Bank,” “M!Countdown,” and “Show Champion.”

The highest new song debut this week is GFRIEND’s latest hit “Sunny Summer” at No. 4. This is the title song of GFRIEND’s summer mini-album. GFRIEND teamed up with hit-maker Duble Sidekick for the first time on this pop dance track with an electric guitar sound and funky rhythm. The lyrics portray the excitement of summer nights.

Moving up 11 spots is Chungha’s new song “LOVE U,” the lead track from her third mini-album “Blooming Blue.” This song is a dance track that incorporates a groovy, electronic vibe with a beautiful melody based on a refreshing tropical sound. It is a perfect song for the summer.
