EXO Ascends With "Tempo"; Soompi's K-Pop Music Chart 2018, November Week 3
There are a lot of changes on our chart this week as the top three songs all come from outside of the previous week’s top 10!
Making their long-awaited comeback in 2018, EXO wasted no time to reach the top of our chart, as their latest hit “Tempo” moves up 13 spots to become our new No. 1 song this week. “Tempo” is the title song from EXO’s fifth album “Don’t Mess Up My Tempo.” It is a hip hop style dance song with an addictive chorus and an a cappella sound. The lyrics specifically talk about not messing up one’s tempo with the girl he loves. “Tempo” won on “Music Bank” last week and is expected to score more music show wins in the next few weeks. Congratulations to EXO!
Moving up 11 spots to No. 2 is the most anticipated debut of 2018. 12-member group IZ*ONE, selected from the top participants of the reality show “Produce 48,” finally made their official debut with the song “La Vie en Rose.” Made up of nine Korean members and three Japanese members, the group will be active till the end of 2019. “La Vie en Rose” is the title song from IZ*ONE’s first mini-album “COLOR*IZ.” It is a powerful dance song with addictive melody. Through the cute lyrics, IZ*ONE sings that they will paint their lives in a pink color. “La Vie en Rose” won on “M Countdown” last week, and overall it is just narrowly beaten by superstar EXO. What a promising debut!
Moving up 17 spots to score his first top 10 hit is Paul Kim’s “Me After You.” Paul Kim may not be a household name to K-pop fans, but he has a long running drama OST hit song “Every Day, Every Moment” this year. “Me After You” is a ballad that showcases Paul Kim’s wonderful vocals, and the lyrics talk about how the perfect love you have been waiting for may just be someone next to you. “Me After You” was a surprise winner on “Inkigayo” last week.
