Chungha Rises To No. 1 With "Gotta Go"; Soompi's K-Pop Music Chart 2019, January Week 3
Chungha’s “Gotta Go” moves up 15 spots to take over as our new No. 1 song this week! “Gotta Go” won four music programs last week on “Inkigayo,” “Music Core,” “M Countdown,” and “Show Champion.” Overall, it was just enough to hold off last week’s champion, WINNER’s “MILLIONS.” “Gotta Go” is Chungha’s second No. 1 song on our chart, as she scored her first chart-topper with “Roller Coaster” almost a year ago. Congratulations to Chungha!
“Gotta Go” is the title song from Chungha’s second single album, and the Korean title of the song translates to “Midnight.” It is a dance song about a woman who has to go home at midnight but doesn’t want to part with her boyfriend yet.
As mentioned above, WINNER’s “MILLIONS” lost a close battle this week and moved down one spot to No. 2. This song still picked up another win on “Music Bank” last week.
Rounding out the top three and also moving down a spot is EXO’s former No. 1 song “Love Shot.”
We have one more new song in the top 10 this week! Moving up 16 spots to No. 6 is MC The Max’s “After You’ve Gone.” This is the title song from their ninth studio album “Circular,” which is the first album they’ve released in three years.
During their most popular days in the past decade, MC The Max was a premier rock ballad group in Korea and most of their hit songs were released in the winter months with great success. The timing of this new song “After You’ve Gone” really reminded fans of their glorious past. The sad ballad is about a man who misses his ex-girlfriend but cannot ask her to stay because of the pain he has suffered in the relationship. ISU’s emotional vocal is the highlight of this song.
