Red Velvet Rises To No. 1 With "Zimzalabim"; Soompi's K-Pop Music Chart 2019, July Week 1
Red Velvet’s “Zimzalabim” moves up 10 spots to become our new No. 1 song! After two months of domination by BTS’s “Boy With Luv” and TWICE’s “FANCY,” there has been a lot of movement on July’s first music chart. “Zimzalabim” swept all music shows last week, so it is not a surprise that this song turned in a high score to win the top spot on our chart this week. Congratulations to Red Velvet!
“Zimzalabim” is the title song from Red Velvet’s new mini-album “The ReVe Festival’ Day 1.” It is an addictive electro-pop song with rhythmic drumming, catchy synths, and cool melodies. The dramatic development is reminiscent of a colorful parade. “Zimzalabim” means to release the dream that is kept deep inside the heart.
Staying steady at No. 2 is BTS’s “Boy With Luv.” Entering the third month on the chart, this song is still amazingly going on strong and holding the second spot.
Moving up 16 spots to No. 3 is a duet titled “Drunk On Love,” between veteran female singer Jang Hye Jin and Vibe’s Yoon Min Soo. This is their second collaboration. 13 years ago, they collaborated on “That Man, That Woman,” which went on to become a classic ballad from the past decade. “Drunk On Love” has a very similar style to “That Man, That Woman” in which the male vocal sings first, followed by the female vocal. It tells a story about a couple who does not want to break up and they drink together so that they can forget the painful memories.
