IU's "Blueming" Guards No. 1 Spot; Soompi's K-Pop Music Chart 2020, January Week 1

Welcome to our first weekly music chart of 2020!

The criteria for Soompi’s music chart has now changed to more accurately reflect the popularity of songs in Korea and around the world in a timely manner each week. These changes include:

• Addition of Hanteo’s weekly singles and albums charts: Hanteo Chart provides data in real-time on album sales and digital chart results, as well as specific data on global album sales. is one of the best independent chart sources in Korea. Adding Hanteo to the mix will make sure the latest hits are included in our weekly chart.
• Addition of YouTube’s weekly K-pop song and music video charts: YouTube has recently played a more significant role in the popularity of songs, and view counts reflect the hottest trending songs and music videos internationally.
• Removed from our chart sources are Korean music show charts and various internet charts (Bugs, Melon, Soribada, Genie). As songs tend to enter music show charts over a week after they are released, this has been removed from the criteria to improve timeliness of results. Internet charts were removed as Gaon data, which is also part of the criteria, also reflects Internet chart results.

Several songs entered the top 10 for the first time for this week’s chart based on this new criteria.

The top two songs remain the same as the last chart of 2019, with IU’s “Blueming” as the No. 1 song for the third consecutive week. The song has picked up five music show wins so far, and it also had the top overall score on Hanteo and YouTube last week. Congratulations again to IU!

Holding on to No. 2 is MAMAMOO’s “HIP,” which has taken seven music show wins.

Four songs newly entered the top 10 this week. Debuting at No. 3 is Red Velvet’s “Psycho,” the title track from their new album “The ReVe Festival: Finale.” The mid-tempo urban dance track has a melody that constantly changes along with a catchy hook.

Moving up 22 spots to No. 4 is CHANGMO’s “METEOR,” a hip hop song in which CHANGMO compares himself to a meteor that breaks you down.

Up 13 spots to No. 5 is a collaboration between Yumdda, Deepflow, Paloalto, The Quiett, and Simon Dominic titled “I’MMA DO.” It is the second single from the Dingo X DAMOIM project.

Debuting at No. 10 is Baek Ji Young’s “No Love, No Heartbreak,” the ninth single from the ODR PROJECT. This ballad is about a woman who struggles to move on from a past relationship as she keeps inflicting sadness while thinking about their past together.
