2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards Announces Date And Host Location
The 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (hereafter 2021 MAMA) will be held in Korea!
On September 8, JTBC News reported that 2021 MAMA will be held in Korea again this year after taking everything into consideration, such as the COVID-19 pandemic situation. According to the reports, the event will take place at CJ ENM’s Contents World, which is located in Paju City in Gyeonggi province. The location is the size of 32 soccer fields, and although the place has yet to fully open, 2020 MAMA was also hosted there.
Following reports, a source from CJ ENM confirmed that 2021 MAMA will be held at CJ ENM’s Contents Studio on December 11.
CJ ENM’s director of music content, Kim Hyun Soo, stated, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the music industry as well as society as a whole is in a slump. It would be great if 2021 MAMA blows new vitality into the music industry by being held in K-pop’s country of origin Korea while also giving hope and courage through K-pop to the people who have become worn out.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 MAMA was held online. This past July, Mnet responded to reports of 2021 MAMA being held in Hong Kong, stating at the time that the host location had yet to be decided.
Since 2010, MAMA has often been held in locations outside Korea. From 2012 to 2015, the ceremony was held in Hong Kong, and in 2017 and 2018, it was held in three countries including Hong Kong. The 2019 MAMA could not be held in Hong Kong due to the protests going on at the time.
In the remaining time until the event, MAMA will continue to take into consideration the COVID-19 pandemic as well as government regulations to determine the possibility of holding the concert offline while putting the health and safety of fans, artists, and staffs as their utmost priority.
