BTS's V Becomes 1st Korean Soloist Ever To Debut At No. 1 On Billboard's Digital Song Sales Chart With A Solo Song

BTS’s V has just set more than one Billboard record with his latest song!

On January 4 local time, Billboard officially announced that V’s “Christmas Tree,” which was released as part of the soundtrack for Choi Woo Shik‘s new drama “Our Beloved Summer,” had debuted at No. 1 on its Digital Song Sales chart (its weekly ranking of the best-selling songs in the United States).

V has now become the first Korean solo artist ever to debut at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart with a solo song—and “Christmas Tree” has also become the first Korean OST song ever to top the chart.

Only two other songs by a Korean soloist have ever reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart at all. Last month, V’s bandmate Suga became the first Korean soloist to debut a song at No. 1 on the chart, but he did it with a collaboration (his and Juice WRLD’s “Girl of My Dreams“). Aside from “Christmas Tree,” the only Korean solo song ever to top the chart is PSY‘s 2012 smash hit “Gangnam Style,” but it did not initially debut at No. 1.

Billboard also announced that “Christmas Tree” had debuted at No. 79 on the Hot 100, making V the third BTS member (after J-Hope and Suga) to chart a solo song on the Hot 100. “Christmas Tree” was also the top-selling song in the United States for this week.

Congratulations to V on his historic achievement!
