On July 26 local time, MTV officially revealed the nominations for this year’s award ceremony—and multiple K-pop groups made the list.
BTS snagged nominations in four different categories, making them the most-nominated group of this year’s awards. In addition to being nominated for Best K-Pop, which BTS has won at every MTV VMAs for the past three years, the group is also in the running for Best Choreography (“Permission to Dance“), Best Metaverse Performance (Minecraft), and Best Visual Effects (jointly nominated with Coldplay for their hit collab “My Universe“).
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN has been nominated for three different awards this year. The group is up for Best New Artist, Push Performance of the Year (“Rock With You“), and Best K-Pop (“HOT“).
BLACKPINK is also nominated for Best Metaverse Performance (PUBG), while member Lisa has been nominated separately for Best K-Pop (“LALISA“).
This year’s nominees for Best K-Pop are BTS’s “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment),” ITZY’s “LOCO,” Lisa’s “LALISA,” SEVENTEEN’s “HOT,” Stray Kids’ “MANIAC,” and TWICE’s “The Feels.”
