MC Mong Further Denies Involvement In EXO Members’ Past Dispute With SM
MC Mong has released an additional statement through his legal representative further denying his involvement with EXO members.
Previously on July 18, a news outlet reported that they secured an audio recording of MC Mong talking about EXO’s Baekhyun and Kai. According to the report, MC Mong said that the exclusive contract between EXO and SM Entertainment is unfair and commented, “I really want to bring in Kai and Baekhyun. I am working hard on it so I can become No. 1.”
Legal representative and attorney Go Yoon Ki of law firm Kohwoo released an official statement on July 19 regarding the report.
He stated, “The relevant voice recording was made by skillfully cropping MC Mong’s voice from a conversation lasting over two hours, and in the contents of this conversation, the mention of EXO’s Kai and Baekhyun lasts only about a minute. The edited conversation has no relation in the slightest to the June 2023 dispute between EXO-CBX and SM in terms of content and timing.”
The attorney further stated, “At the time, MC Mong had the opportunity to share various conversations regarding issues about music promotions, prospective growth as artists, and more with the EXO members, who were asking various questions based on several of their concerns ahead of their contract renewals.” He continued, “[MC Mong] found out at the time that the EXO members had dreams of becoming independent and self-sustaining producers, with intentions to leave behind all the domestic and international offers. Excluding words that are unnecessary or could cause misunderstandings to the relevant artists, MC Mong only gave intermittent advice to [the members] as a senior artist while maintaining their friendship.”
Go Yoon Ki added, “One year and six months after the relevant events took place around June 2023, MC Mong and Big Planet Made were momentarily pointed out to be the external forces during the dispute between EXO-CBX and SM, but MC Mong and Big Planet Made had no intention in the slightest to honestly recruit them, and SM personally confirmed that there were no such procedures at all. After understanding all the circumstances that took place before and after [the incident], SM also released an official statement expressing their apology to MC Mong and Big Planet Made.”
The attorney said that an individual named “Ahn” is the one behind this situation as he illegally recorded a private conversation that MC Mong exchanged with acquaintances and edited this recording. He shared that “Ahn” has already been forwarded to the prosecution with recommendation for indictment on the charge of intimidation and revealed, “We plan on taking strong legal action for the audio recording secured with an illegal method, repeated intimidatory acts using part of an audio recording that was edited arbitrarily and maliciously, and continued intimidatory acts that have not halted even after police investigation and being forwarded to the prosecution with recommendation for indictment.”
Earlier in June, EXO’s Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin notified SM Entertainment regarding the termination of their exclusive contracts, but SM Entertainment released a joint statement with the three EXO members later the same month, stating that they have resolved their differences and agreed to continue forward as EXO with their contracts.
