4 Important Aspects Of The Past That Were Revealed In Episode 10 Of "A Good Day To Be A Dog"
Last week’s episode left us with heart-fluttering feels seeing our lovely “Seo-Hae couple” (as they decided that would be their secret couple’s name) enjoy their secretive dates in and outside of work. While they almost got caught by more than one person and fully expressed their feelings with a passionate kiss, the plot starts to thicken in “A Good Day to Be a Dog.” Last week’s new episode revealed much more about the past that the main characters share, which would lead to discover the real reasons behind Han Hae Na’s curse.
Warning: spoilers from episode 10 below!
1. Lee Bo Kyum’s true identity
Though the show hints along the way just who Lee Bo Kyum (Lee Hyun Woo) really is, or more exactly to say what he is, episode 10 finally confirms that he is an ancient mountain spirit who has a long history with Jin Seo Won and Han Hae Na. In a heartbreaking scene, he sees his beloved’s dead body by the river, and we are told how everything started in ancient Korea. He, who apparently regards humans as cruel creatures who are not to be trusted, still seems to be longing for a young woman named Cho Young, who has a remarkable resemblance with the present Min Ji Ah (Kim Yi Kyung).
The show also reveals that the vice principal from the school where Lee Bo Kyum teaches is an ancient fox who took on a human form a long time ago and serves the mountain spirit. They both help Cho Young after she sadly loses her child when she is framed as a traitor and has to run away. Though Lee Bo Kyum has little regard for humans, his love for Cho Young makes him look after her, and together they learn how to find happiness again, which makes everything more pitiful when she dies.
2. Han Hae Na and Jin Seo Won’s past relationship
Another thing that was still unclear was the true nature of Han Hae Na (Park Gyu Young) and Jin Seo Won’s (Cha Eun Woo’s) past relationship, since in some other episodes it looked as if they had a tragic backstory. However, this episode shows that Seo Won was once a noble guard named Soo Hyun, who fell in love with Han Hae Na in her past life. Han Hae Na was a servant named Mak Soon and worked as Cho Young’s maid.
Though their relationship could appear as impossible, it seems that they really loved each other and that Jin Seo Won’s past self did everything in his power to protect Hae Na, even as he was held captive and tortured into revealing where Cho Young was hiding. And almost reaching the end of the episode, the show reveals that Hae Na was pregnant with Seo Won’s child.
3. Han Hae Na’s past betrayal
When Soo Hyun (Seo Won’s past self) gets held captive due to helping Cho Young escape, Mak Soon (Hae Na’s past self) is bound to stay hidden with her, loyal to the young lady as they grew up together and truly cared for each other. However, while Cho Young starts to fall in love with the mountain spirit, he starts to suspect that Mak Soon could betray her beloved lady in order to rescue Soo Hyun and their unborn baby.
Though at the end we only see the perspective from Lee Bo Kyum, who is wounded while trying to help Cho Young escape once again, he sees from afar how she is attacked and falls from the cliff she often used to visit. And he sees that it is Soo Hyun who apparently kills her, with Mak Soon by his side.
4. Lee Bo Kyum’s hidden intentions
We now know that Lee Bo Kyum holds Han Hae Na’s and Jin Seo Won’s past selves responsible for the death of his beloved Cho Young. And despite having helped them in several occasions, first with the bully student and also when Kang Eun Hwan tried to reveal Hae Na’s secret, in truth he has been trying to take revenge on them, hoping to make them suffer as much as he has.
Sadly, he starts his revenge by going to the veterinary where Hae Na’s uncle is kept. And as Lee Bo Kyum reaches out to him, consequently her uncle’s vital signs die out. With this shocking ending, next episode’s preview shows that he will continue his revenge relentlessly, bringing much distress not only to our Seo-Hae couple but to the viewers as well.
