"Jewel In The Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum") Scriptwriter Makes Clarification Regarding Lee Young Ae's Upcoming Drama
The scriptwriter behind the classic K-drama “Jewel in the Palace” (also known as “Dae Jang Geum”) has commented briefly regarding Lee Young Ae’s upcoming drama.
On January 5, the drama production company KPJ shared the following official statement:
Hello. This is drama production company KPJ.
We are informing you as we received continuous questions regarding the participation of MBC drama “Jewel in the Palace” scriptwriter Kim Young Hyun in “Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” (romanized title), which was recently reported by the media.
Scriptwriter Kim Young Hyun has no relation to the drama “Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” that was reported to be in production by Fantagio. Scriptwriter Kim Young Hyun learned of the production news of “Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” through news reports.
As the 2003 MBC drama “Jewel in the Palace” is an original creation of writer Kim Young Hyun, she has all the rights to the content of the script from the setting of the main characters, the relationships between the characters, and the developments of the events as well as the episodes as the original creator.
“Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” has no relations to scriptwriter Kim Young Hyun, and it has no relation to the backdrop, content, characters, and such of the 2003 drama “Jewel in the Palace” that broadcast via MBC.
We are also speculating that [“Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum”] is a completely different drama that is not a spin-off, sequel, or prequel based on ‘Jewel in the Palace.’ We ask that there be no misunderstanding regarding this aspect.
Earlier in January, Fantagio announced that they are gearing up to start filming “Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” in October along with the casting news of actress Lee Young Ae, who starred as the titular role of Dae Jang Geum in “Jewel in the Palace.” “Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” is said to delve into the life story of Jang Geum after she becomes a uniyeo (female physician).
Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming drama!
