Rapper Sik-K Revealed To Have Turned Himself In To Police For Drug Use + Releases Statement Clarifying Misinformation
Rapper Sik-K has been revealed to have surrendered himself to police for drug use in January of this year.
On April 29, TenAsia reported that a rapper in his 30s who turned himself in to the police last January for using drugs was Sik-K. At the time, the identity of the person who surrendered was not made public as the case was still in the investigation stage before indictment. The report also included that a test result for a detailed analysis conducted during the police investigation by the National Forensic Service revealed positive for marijuana.
In response to the report, Sik-K’s legal representative released an official statement clarifying the misinformation that is being reported. They stated, “Sik-K did not go to the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul under the influence. His behavior while attending the police was not due to taking drugs but was due to delirium after surgery.”
According to the statement, Sik-K underwent surgery under general anesthesia for treatment of a shoulder rotator cuff injury sustained while serving in the military, and he was prescribed sleeping pills until he was discharged from the hospital on January 18, 2024 which caused his delirium symptoms around the morning of January 19, 2024 that led him to leave home.
Sik-K’s legal representative emphasized, “Sik-K has surrendered to charges of simple possession of marijuana and smoking, and is admitting to these charges. No Philopon (a form of methamphetamine) component was detected in Sik-K’s hair test results submitted during the investigation.”
On April 18, Yongsan Police Station transferred Sik-K to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Sik-K is a rapper who became widely known through Season 4 of Mnet’s hip hop survival program “Show Me the Money.” After parting ways with H1GHR MUSIC, Sik-K established his own label KC, an acronym of “Kwon Min Shik’s (Sik-K’s real name) Company,” in 2023.
