Korea's Youngest Girl Group Set to Debut
Set for a debut next week, GP basic, otherwise known as Korea’s youngest active girl group, consists of six members whose average age is only fifteen.
The group is apparently composed of only middle and elementary school students – five eighth-graders, and one sixth grader. Their company states:
“They have been building up dancing and singing skills for two years through training and boast a powerful teamwork. They are young in age but will show strong girl power that will threaten the stronghold of older girl groups.”
Netizens are also worried that these young members will face problems with the weekly music shows in the future. KBS’ Music Bank, MBC’s Music Core, and SBS’ Inkigayo all have a viewing requirement of fifteen and up. How will GP basic be able to perform if some of them are under the age requirement to even watch the show?
However, the KCSC has said that GP basic will be evaluated, and if needed, banned, based on their clothing choice and dance moves.
Check out some of their teaser shots below!
