[Video] History of K-Pop Girl Groups: 1996 - Present
A special video treat for you all today! We have a ten minute video about the History of K-Pop girl groups starting from 1996 to the present day. Each group is briefly showcased with previously popular song of theirs.
Over 60 K-Pop girl groups have been created in the past 15 years. With the trend of idol groups still going strong, we can expect many more on the way.
For the older groups, while many seem to have faded way over time, some have had members go into a solo career or even acting and modeling. The “modern” era of currently active girl groups seems to start with Brown Eyed Girls in 2006. Many newer K-Pop fans should be able to recognize the groups that have debuted in the past five years.
Enjoy!
Fun fact: If you add up the members from each group, it equals 266 girls (give or take a few, due to member changes).
GP Basic, Swincle, Blady, SpinEL and A Pink are among the few girl groups missing from the video.
How many groups from the video can you recognize?
