Boy group EXO sold an impressive 740,000 albums of their first album in the first three months and joined prestigious artists by earning the “Music King” title.
EXO released their first full album “XOXO” on June 3, and then released a repackage on August 5. As of September 3, the first album had sold 424,260 albums and the repackaged sold 312,899 for a total of 737,159 albums sold.
The last artists to sell over 700 thousand albums was Kim Gun Mo with 1.3 million albums sold for his seventh album and Jo Sung Mo with 960 thousand albums sold for his fourth album. This makes EXO the first artist since 2001 to sell over 700 thousand albums.
A representative of SM Entertainment said, “This is a huge event since the online music sales started in 2005. This achievement has a special meaning since this is EXO’s first album.”
EXO has been doing well with their recent song, “Growl.” The song has topped the music charts and won first place on music shows, including a triple crown in “Inkigayo.” The group also released the drama version of “Growl” today.
