Singer Lee Moon Se Says Voice Unaffected by Thyroid Cancer Surgery

In March 30’s episode of “Healing Camp,” singer-songwriter Lee Moon Se talks about his struggles with thyroid cancer.

He reveals that he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer eight years ago, but was able to have the tumor removed with a simple surgery. However, the cancer recurred last year, and he had to undergo a second surgery.

Lee Moon Se says that the surgery was very risky because the tumor was located close to his vocal cords. In order to avoid damaging them, his surgeons did not remove all of the tumor and therefore some of it still remains. He made this decision so that he could continue to sing. If he had not, the surgeons would have had to scrape at his vocal cords to remove the tumor, and he could have lost his voice. He is currently undergoing radiation treatment.

Many people speculated on why he was out of the spotlight during the six months that he was recovering from his second surgery. “I heard that some people assumed that my treatment hadn’t gone well and so I wouldn’t be able to sing anymore,” he says, adding that he wanted to come on the show in order to correct those false rumors.

“It’s not as bad as some have worried,” he assures fans. “I really don’t have any problems singing.”

He adds that the surgery did have a slight effect on his voice, but that it’s just something that he feels when he sings high notes now and that most people won’t be able to notice.

Lee Moon Se will be making a comeback on April 7 with his 15th album “New Direction,” which features a collaboration with Super Junior’s Kyuhyun.
