Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2015 – April Week 1
Red Velvet scores their first No. 1 hit with “Ice Cream Cake” this week, moving up from No. 11 last week. Red Velvet debuted last year with the top 10 hit single “Happiness.” Now they have released their first mini-album. “Ice Cream Cake” is one of the two title songs. It is an electronic dance hit about a girl enjoying her romance as sweet as an ice cream cake. This song won on Music Bank and Inkigayo last week. Those were the first music show wins for Red Velvet. Congratulations!
Last two week’s No. 1, Shinhwa’s “Sniper” drops back to a distant second this week. Rounding out the top three is another new song. Moving up 21 spots to No. 3 is Huh Gak’s latest hit “Snow Of April,” coming from his third mini-album of the same name. Written by G. Gorilla, this orchestral style ballad has beautiful lyrics. Huh Gak’s emotional vocal is a highlight of this song.
There are two other new songs in the top 10 this week. Just below the top three is Girl’s Day’s Minah. Her first solo top 10 hit “I Am A Woman Too” moves up 11 spots to No. 4 this week. Even though Minah had solo OST songs and duets before, this is the first time she releases a mini-album of her own. “I Am A Woman Too” is written by Duble Sidekick. This is a guitar driven R&B style song which is very different from Girl’s Day’s styles. Minah delights fans with her sorrowful vocals. The lyrics portray a woman who wants to be loved.
Moving up 16 spots to No. 6 is ballad duo Davichi’s new song “Two Lovers.” This song is written as the story preceding Soyu and Junggigo’s mega hit “Some” from last year. Composer Xepy, who also took part in writing “Some,” created this song about feelings torn between two person at the same time. Mad Clown is featured as the rapper on this song.
