Production of Wildly Popular Honey Butter Chips to Increase Within a Year

Looks like Honey Butter Chips are here to stay.

The popular snack from Haitai will soon see an increase in production. The confectionary company revealed on April 8 that in an agreement with its joint producer for the chips, Japan’s Calbee, it will be building another factory to produce the highly demanded chips. The factory will be built next the currently operational Munmak factory in Wonju, Gangwon province.

Currently, a bag of Honey Butter Chips, which Haitai describes as containing “sweet honey from beehives” and “French gourmet butter,” costs around 2-3000 won (2-3 USD), but due to the high demand and its rarity in stores, can be found on auction for almost double to triple the price, and more.

The new factory is set to be open around February or March of next year. Haitai expects that the new factory opening will increase the supply of the chips twofold.

Good, because this writer who lives in Seoul has had it only once because of its rarity. Honestly speaking, though, it wasn’t as amazing as it was played up to be.
