New Project to Fight School Violence Instituted by Seoul Government
Cheil Worldwide and the Seoul government are working together on a new project to prevent violence in schools.
The project, called “Friend Name Tag,” introduces name tags that feature not only one’s own name, but also the name of a friend. The project’s aim is to promote a close relationship based on mutual support between the two people whose names are written on the name tag. “The most fundamental way to prevent school violence is to have everyone think of each other as friends, so in order for everyone to have a friend to look after them we made name tags that have one’s own name written next to that of a classmate,” explained a representative from Cheil.
The program will also feature a wireless alarm system that students who experience or witness bullying can activate in order to alert teachers. When students activate the system through the push of a button, teachers will be alerted to the student’s situation through their PCs, wearable devices, and office monitors.
According to a study conducted by an anti-school violence NGO, most instances of bullying take place at the beginning of the semester in the months of March and April, while about 50 percent of students will feign ignorance to bullying despite witnessing it directly.
Meanwhile, Cheil has reported that 106 cases of bullying have been reported through the “Friend Name Tag” campaign.
