Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2015 – October Week 4
SM Entertainment’s female artists continue to dominate our chart as Girls’ Generation’s leader Taeyeon is the latest to score a No. 1 hit. Taeyeon placed two new songs on the top 10 this week. The song “I”, which is one of the title tracks from her first mini-album of the same name, moves up 13 spots to become our new No. 1 song. This is the eighth straight week an SM female artist tops our chart, starting from Girls’ Generation’s “Lion Heart” for three weeks, then Red Velvet’s “Dumb Dumb” for the past four weeks. Now Taeyeon is carrying the torch.
Well known as the best vocalist in Girls’ Generation, Taeyeon had her first solo hit “Can You Hear Me?” from the drama OST of “Beethoven Virus” way back in 2008. Fans back then were already wondering when she would release her solo album. Perhaps no one expects we have to wait seven years for this to happen. But the wait is worth and Taeyeon did not disappoint us. “I” is mid-tempo story telling ballad designed to showcase Taeyeon’s vocal. It also features Verbal Jint’s rapping. “I” swept all music shows last week and won easily over Lim Chang Jung’s “Love Again” which moves up two spots to No. 2. Congratulations to Taeyeon.
Taeyeon’s second title track “U R” also moves up 10 spots to No. 6 this week. This song is a compelling ballad with acoustic piano melody and string sound. The song title has double meaning “You Are” and “Under The Rainbow.” Taeyeon’s crystal clear vocal is showcased throughout the song.
One other new song in the top 10 belongs to Lovelyz. Their song “Ah-Choo” moves up three spots to No. 9. This is the title track of the Lovelyz’s mini-album “Lovelyz8.” It is a sweet dance song about an innocent girl who is going to confess to her crush.
