The Best Way to Watch MAMA 2015 is to Bingo It (Yeah We Said Bingo)

Okay, along with the rest of you, my favorite season is awards season. Sure, Fall is pretty foliage and Summer is beach season but if we’re going to be honest, awards season is when all the action happens in the world of K-pop and when fans everywhere sacrifice sleep and sanity to support their faves. So I love it.

MAMA is known for epic performances, mild mishaps, and lots of surprises so Team Soompi put our heads together to figure out exactly what we could possibly expect from the evening.

We attended the show as press and stayed up all night to live-tweet it, but we also wanted to have a little more fun with the coverage. And, what’s more fun than BINGO? (Okay, I know you can probably list a ton of things more fun but when it comes to MAMA, bingo is where it’s at.)

Here’s what we came up with:

Someone Falls

Apparently this year the unlucky, unsteady on their feet winner was… SHINee’s Taemin! Sorry buddy… (A lot of people were betting on Jinhwan but rest assured iKON fans – he stayed upright the entire performance!)

Absentee Winner

This one was pretty easy – as there were quite a few! We’ll pick one… CNBLUE. They won for Best Band Performance but were unfortunately absent from the ceremony.

Broadcast Error

Another easy one! Since most of us were streaming the event live, every. single. time. the stream died, that totally counts as a broadcast error, right?

Wardrobe Mishap

An eagle-eyed fan caught one – during JYP‘s performance, his dancer failed to actually tie her ribbon around his arm. I think it counts, right?

Awkwardly Sexy Stage

So, JYP took a lot of honors this year. Hisstage was probably the most awkward, sexy thing we have ever seen. GOT7 Bambam‘s reaction really sums it up perfectly:

Shirtless-ness

Okay, wow this year no one went shirtless? I honestly thought this would be the easiest square. And we were betting on JYP to do us the honors. Hmmm.

Someone Announces a Comeback

Another miss – but perhaps the 2NE1 reunion counts? I’d like to assume that their epic performance implies a comeback coming “soon”? Just me?

Kiss

Again, the honor goes to JYP with one of his dancers and again here is a perfect reaction:

*whispers* JYP

So, JYP majorly let us down this year on the whisper front – though he did yell it at the top of his lungs to start his performance so we’ll let that one slide and count it. Perhaps the volume of his “JYP” depends on the size of the audience?

Tears

No one cried this year when they accepted their award…. that’s kind of a bummer because I’m a sucker for tearful acceptance speeches. Monsta X was adorably awkward accepting their award but no one’s eyes grew misty. Hopefully next year! (Although, shout-out to the people using “the tears of Blackjacks” as part of the bingo – I won’t let it count here but I’m sure every Blackjack out there was sobbing.)

Caught Fanboying/Fangirling

This one is EASY! There were so many but I really like this one so BTS fanboying EXO (and EXO fanboying BTS) is the winner!

Awkward English

Apparently it happened a lot – but you know we applaud everyone who spoke in English because we, too, are international fans!

A Wild Curse Word Appears

So we were hoping for awkward, missed curses. That didn’t happen but iKON almost had it! During their “Anthem” performance someone (Double B obviously) yelled “put your motherfather hands up!” It’s not actually a curse – but it’s a pretty great. I’m counting it.

Intra-Agency Love

Okay, we accidentally mis-typed intra-agency, but that is too easy so I am going to focus on inter-agency. Mainly because we (I) felt really, really strongly about the following inter-agency bonding moment. Unsure if it’s actual love or just Seungri being Seungri (pretty sure it’s the latter) but here you go:

Unexpected Collab Stage

I’m going to give this one to BTS and GOT7. People wished and perhaps prayed for this collab but it was still a surprise to see them together. Another possible surprise collab was Monsta X and Seventeen.Which did you prefer?

Selfie Blows Up The Internet

Okay, didn’t Baekhyun and V actually, like, break Twitter last year? This year we didn’t have something quite to that level but close enough we have this:

Fantastic Baby

Okay, it’s the running joke that BIGBANG performs “Fantastic Baby” every year. They have, apparently, moved on. We were hoping for some trolling.

Unexpected Win

And the Best Male Artist Award goes to….

YG As The Final Performance

Yesss, we assumed this one but PSY made sure it came true! What’s a little “Gangnam Style” to end the night? Apparently necessary. But the best part was that the legendary Chow Yun Fat is apparently a huge PSY fanboy – he even danced along!

Random “International” Artist

We had to include this because we’re never quite sure how MAMA decides who to invite to the awards to represent ~the rest of the world~. This year, apparently, it was the Pet Shop Boys. Props to f(x), they killed the collab stage:

Surprise Performer

Okay, we promise that this was not added to the card because we knew there would be a surprise. We had no idea the epic-ness that was waiting for us – we just hoped there’d be something surprising. Was a 2NE1 reunion enough of a surprise for everyone? Yeah, we thought so. I was going to include a bunch of reaction tweets but it literally just a sea of tears and I didn’t want to wade through that – here’s the performance instead:

Fans Cheering For Another Artist at the Wrong Time

BTS fans are very dedicated. And there was one that really wanted to cheer for Jungkook. We missed it but one of our members caught the cheering for Jungkook when he was very obviously not on stage. Oops.

Caught Looking Bored

This is our favorite part of every awards show – when artists are caught by the crowd camera and projected onto the big screen looking bored af (most likely because they’ve seen the same performances like a billion times before). This one is the winner though, thanks San E:
