Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2015 – December Week 1
Big changes in the top 10 this week as we have six new songs, including all of the top three. EXID joins BIGBANG as the only artists to have three No. 1 songs on our chart this year. Their latest hit “Hot Pink” moves up 12 spots to become our new No. 1 song this week. Despite not winning any music shows last week, “Hot Pink” is ranked consistently among the top songs on all our sources and easily won this week.
“Hot Pink” is a vibrant electronic dance hit with additive melody. The lyrics related the color pink to the innocent but sexy appeal of the group. With a trio of chart topping hit in 2015, EXID has made massive stride this year and will battle many established artists for the top female group in the year end awards. Congratulations to EXID.
Moving up 15 spots but settles for a distant second is Dynamic Duo’s “Jam.” This is the title song of Dynamic Duo’s eighth album “Grand Carnival,” their first full length album in more than two years. The lyrics are about friends of the opposite sex who have feelings for each other. “Jam” was the winner on M!Countdown last week but it lacks the score on Soompi Airplay to compete for the top spot with EXID. Let’s see if that will change next week.
Debuting at No. 3 and round out an all new top three is iKON’s new song “Apology.” This song is different from “My Type” and “Rhythm Ta.” It is a listener friendly R&B song about a guy who regrets after breaking up with his girlfriend. “Apology” won on Inkigayo last week. Will it become iKON’s first No. 1 song on our chart? We’ll find out next week.
Two popular hip-hop musicians collaborate for the first time and make our top five. Moving up 14 spots to No. 5 is San E and Mad Clown’s “Sour Grapes.” San E and Mad Clown has both worked with many mainstream artists but we rarely see two rappers collaborating together. “Sour Grape” is about man’s aggressive attitude toward love. The two artists present this in a humorous way.
FTIsland’s lead singer Lee Hong Ki has his first top 10 solo hit with “Insensible,” up 13 spots to No. 7. This song is the title track of Lee Hong Ki’s first mini-album “FM302.” It is a rock ballad about a man who cannot forget his past love. Lee Hong Ki’s heartfelt and husky vocal fits the song perfectly.
Moving up 13 spots to No. 10 is B.A.P’s “Young, Wild & Free.” It is the title song of their fourth mini-album “Matrix.” Unlike their previous hits, “Young, Wild & Free” is a rock style song about friendships and challenges faced by youth. It is based on personal experiences of B.A.P members. “Young, Wild & Free” won on Music Bank last week and it should continue to move up on our chart.
