Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2016 - April Week 1
Red Velvet picks up their third consecutive No. 1 song with “One Of These Nights,” moving up 11 spots to become our new No. 1 song. It is also the only new song in our top 10 this week. Red Velvet had a breakthrough year last year with two No. 1 songs “Ice-Cream Cake” and “Dumb Dumb.” Unlike those two songs, “One Of These Nights” is a trendy R&B ballad with orchestral sound. Not too many K-pop female groups are promoting their ballads but Red Velvet has done it before with “Be Natural.”
Inspired by the ancient fairy tale love story of “The Weaver Girl and the Cowherd,” the couple were only allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of July (which is the Korean title of this song). The lyrics of this song are about a woman remembering her ex and hoping to see him again one day. “One Of These Nights” swept all music shows last week and it is not a surprise Red Velvet won on our chart as well. Congratulations to Red Velvet.
Just edged out by “One Of These Nights” is Mamamoo’s former chart topper “You’re The Best,” which remains at No. 2. Dropping two spots to No. 3 is last week’s No. 1 song Lee Hi’s “Breathe.”
Besides the No. 1 song, Red Velvet member Wendy also has another song in the top five this week, as her duet with Eric Nam “Spring Love” is holding steady at No. 4.
