Song Ji Hyo And Chen Bolin's 4 Best Moments From "We Are In Love"
The Chinese dating reality show “We Are In Love” recently ended its second season run featuring the popular star couple Song Ji Hyo and Chen Bolin. It’s kind of bittersweet that it’s over, as we know all things must come to end. To me, it was such a treat to see Ji Hyo and Bolin together on the show because it helped show viewers a different side of the two, which you wouldn’t normally be able to see. Seeing Ji Hyo being soft and feminine while letting go of herself emotionally is so refreshing and such a contrast to the strong Ace Ji Hyo we know from “Running Man.”
Despite being a reality show, we all know there is some acting involved. However, you can’t deny the ongoing chemistry and sincerity in the ways they treated each other. If there wasn’t a language barrier, I personally think they’d be quite compatible as a couple in real life. They have a lot in common and share similar life experiences and values. I like that being on the show was a type of healing for the both of them on a personal level and that they were genuinely grateful for the experience.
I have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see Bolin and Ji Hyo together. Perhaps we will meet them again on a drama, film, or CF? All three are good and fine by me. Chinese entertainment really loves to milk what’s hot, especially popular pairings. As Bobo and Momo said in the finale episode, this is definitely not an ending but rather, it is the start of a new beginning for them.
As a wrap up, I wanted to share some of my favorite moments between Bolin and Ji Hyo on the show.
Many of my favorite moments definitely came from the Finland episodes. Their relationship became deeper as they opened up to each other. Bolin confessed that he especially likes Ji Hyo’s frankness and honest character. Whether it’s onscreen or off-screen, she is exactly the same person.
Ji Hyo opened up about her experience being on “Running Man” for the last six years. The other members always treated her like a brother and she never wanted to trouble them or ask for differential treatment while being on the show. She said she’s thought that way for the last six years, causing her feminine side to gradually diminish over time. Understanding her feelings and worries, Bolin told her that she didn’t have to force herself to be strong in front of him. Ji Hyo, grateful that he understood her, confessed that she often told the people around her how lucky she is to have met him.
After Bolin and Ji Hyo finished dancing, they sat down on the stage and started to reflect on their trip. Ji Hyo said she had been busy working and living an intense life while struggling for a livelihood, which made her suppress her emotions. After seeing all the beautiful scenery in Finland, she became emotional and realized that one cannot ignore the emotions in his or her daily life. Ji Hyo starts to get teary-eyed and Bolin agrees that he is exactly the same. He is constantly busy with work, and finds difficulty in maintaining work-life balance with his career. From this trip you could see that they both opened up a lot more to each other and developed a stronger mutual understanding.
Ji Hyo visited Bolin in Taiwan and one of the places he took her was a breakfast shop where he had eaten since he was a child. He got her to try his “Bolin Burger,” his favorite breakfast item on the menu. He introduced Ji Hyo to the shop owner, who was like a mother figure to Bolin, having watched him grow up while making breakfast for him every day. Besides taking her to the breakfast shop, he showed her the path he took every day to school, visited his junior high school, and introduced her to his old teacher and classmates. There’s something so heartwarming, sincere, and intimate in the way Bolin shows Ji Hyo his private life and past. Ji Hyo had mentioned previously that Bolin is not the type of person who pretends to be thoughtful. He is genuinely like that in real life and sincerely thinks about everyone around him.
After their good-byes for the show, Ji Hyo received a surprise invitation from Bolin to meet at a music studio during the behind-the-scenes interview. Ji Hyo arrived at the music studio and was surprised to see Bolin and his band performing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Franki Valli and The Four Seasons. After the performance, Bolin said he hoped their relationship would be like a semi-colon, a “to be continued” with more stories to come. He hoped she would take care of him from then on. They hugged and cutely introduced themselves to each other as if meeting for the first time, symbolizing the start of their new beginning beyond the show. Ji Hyo said from then on, no matter where they are or what they are doing, they would meet again.
