Breaking: President Park Geun Hye Officially Expelled From Office

President Park Geun Hye of South Korea has officially been removed from the presidency.

March 10, at 11 a.m. KST, the Korean Constitutional Court proceeded with a final vote — which came out unanimous — on Park Geun Hye’s removal from office. The ruling for impeachment was made late last year on December 9, 2016, after which the Constitutional Court had 180 days to pass a verdict.

Judge Lee Jung Mi read the verdict at the ruling today, explaining the 13 different grounds for Park Geun Hye’s expulsion, which include bribery, dereliction of duty, and abuse of authority.

Park Geun Hye was removed from office immediately upon announcement of the verdict, and the next presidential election will be held within 60 days.
