TWICE Succeeds With "SIGNAL"; Soompi’s K-Pop Music Chart 2017, June Week 2
TWICE’s “SIGNAL” easily repeated as our No. 1 song this week. It picked up another four music show wins last week on “Inkigayo,” “Music Core,” “M!Countdown,” and “Show Champion.” “SIGNAL” also continues to be ranked very high on all chart sources. Congratulations again to TWICE!
Moving up 12 spots to take second this week is SEVENTEEN’s “Don’t Wanna Cry.” This song is SEVENTEEN’s highest charting song so far in their career. It is the title track of their fourth mini-album “A11” and is a dance song with an EDM sound and an addictive melody. The lyrics describe young men holding back their tears after their first experience of deep sorrow. “Don’t Wanna Cry” won on “Music Bank” last week, preventing “SIGNAL” to sweep all the music shows.
Rounding out the top three is Suran’s “Wine,” bouncing back up to four spots. This song actually hit the top three for the first time despite being in the top 10 for the last five weeks. Suran has also just released her first mini-album “Walkin'” with the title song “1+1=0.”
There are two other new songs in the top 10 this week. Moving up eight spots to No. 7 is Urban Zakapa’s “Alone.” Written by member Jo Hyun Ah, this song provides a comfortable feeling to listeners who are alone and feel like they are being pitied by others.
Debuting at No. 10 is the final hit song “LONELY” by SISTAR. Last month, the news of SISTAR announcing their disbandment shocked the K-pop world. SISTAR is still immensely popular and could have continued their success as a group, but instead, they chose to part ways as all four members have already established their solo careers, whether it’s in singing or in acting. Known as K-pop’s summer group, SISTAR has always released their new songs every summer in the past few years. Overall, SISTAR has accumulated eight No. 1 songs on our Soompi Music Chart in their amazing seven-year career.
“LONELY” was written by Black Eyed Pilseung, who collaborated with SISTAR before on their No. 1 song “Touch My Body.” “LONELY” is a sad ballad that is custom made as a breakup song. The lyrics are about a woman who is willing to accept the ending of her relationship without any strong objections.
