[Recap] KBS 2011 Entertainment Awards

It is that time of year again. It’s the time when all the celebrities gather together to reflect back over the last year and get some awards. The KBS 2011 Entertainment Awards is KBS’s end of year award ceremony to recognize the hard working celebrities in 2011 in the fields of Variety Shows. The MC for this year’s awards will be Shin Dong Yub, SNSD’s YoonA and Announcer Lee Ji Ae.

The nominee list for this year’s Grand Award are as follows

• “Gag Concert” and “Birth Of A Family’s” Kim Byung Man
• “Happy Together 3’s” Yoo Jae Suk
• “Hello and Immortal Song 2’s” Shin Dong Yub
• “1 Night, 2 Days'” Lee Seung Gi
• “Qualifying Men’s” Lee Kyung Kyu 

With Kang Ho Dong out of the nominee list this year due to his retirement, the list at first appears to be pretty much a one horse race, with Yoo Jae Suk being the clear favorite. However the fact that “Happy Together 3” hasn’t been as successful as previous years and with the huge success of “Gag Concert” this year, especially the “Master” corner, Kim Byung Man also has a good chance to take the award for this year. 

Shin Dong Yub is a low favorite. He has worked hard over the year but he failed to stand out in any great way. The talk show “Hello” has been doing quite well on Mondays, while “Immortal Song 2” has slowly been rising in prominence on Saturdays, but whether this is enough for Shin Dong Yub to get the award remains questionable.

The selection of Lee Seung Gi from “1 Night, 2 Days” seems a bit questionable. Most people would have expected Lee Soo Geun, but it appears he has been excluded from the nominee’s list for some reason. “1 Night, 2 Days” is definitely popular no doubt, and with the program finally concluding next February, they might give Lee Seung Gi the award as an indirect way of giving the whole program the Grand Award.

As the winner of last year’s KBS Grand Award, Lee Kyung Kyu probably has the lowest chance of getting the award this year. It’s definitely not unheard of for someone to get the Grand Award for consecutive years (Just ask Yoo Jae Suk and Kang Ho Dong) but it’s relatively unheard of for KBS. And with the relative drop in popularity of “Qualifying Men,” it just seems unlikely that Lee Kyung Kyu will beat the other nominees to it.

KBS “1 Night, 2 Days” team wins the “Grand Award for the 2011 KBS Entertainment Awards. It’s only the 2nd time in recent history that a whole program team has won the “Grand Award” during any Entertainment Awards. The first program being “Infinity Challenge” during the 2007 MBC Entertainment Awards.

The 1 Night, 2 Days Team 

Ko Woori from Rainbow, so far she’s the only member from “Invincible Youth Season 2” that i’ve seen pictures of.

Update 4:
The event has now started and the opening performance is by the Youth Choir from KBS “Qualifying Men.” They are currently doing a medly of idol songs, starting with “I don’t care.”

Update 5:
And the MCs for today’s event are Lee Ji Ae, Shin Dong Yub and YoonA. This will be YoonA 2nd year as the MC for the KBS Entertainment Awards.

Update 6:
The “Happy Together 3” doing a little skit to explain the “Greatest Program” nominees and the voting process.
The program nominees are “Happy Sunday.” “Happy Together 3,” “Immortal Song 2” and “Gag Concert.” Unfortunately it’s a SMS vote, so international fans won’t be able to vote for this.

Update 7:
The first awards to be given out will be the “Rookie of the Year” award. The awards will be given out by Yoo Jae Suk and Shin Bong Sun.
The nominees for the Comedy(Female) catergory are Kwon Min Jin, Kim Hae Sun, Lee Hee Kyung, Jung Eun Sun, Hong Na Young.

And the winner of the Comedy(Female) Rookie of the Award is “Gag Concert’s“ Lee Hee Kyung, who is famous for losing over 20kg for a corner in “Gag Concert.” she gives a tearful acceptance speech, thanking her deceased father and other people.

Now the nominees for the Comedy(Male) Rookie of the Award are Kim Ki Ri ,Shin Jong Ryung, Lee Sang Hoon, Jung Tae Ho.

And the winner for the Comedy(Male) Rookie of the Award is “Gag Concert’s” Jung Tae Ho.

He thanks his mother, who has past away, and his fiance.

The next award is the Show Variety (Female) Rookie of the Award. The award is being given out by Kim Seung Woo and Lee Soo Guen. The nominees are  Ka Ae Ran, Kim Min Ji (Music Bank), Park Eun Young, Oh Jung Yeon.

And the winner of the Show Variety (Female) Rookie of the Award is Announcer Park Eun Young.

She thanks her viewers.

The next award is Show Variety (Male) Rookie of the Award. The nominees are Park Sung Kwang, Yang Joon Hyuk, Beast’s Lee Ki Kwang, Ji Hyun Woo, Music Bank’s Hyun Woo.

And the winner is Yang Joon Hyuk from “Qualifying Men.”

Update 8:

The “Emergency Measures Meeting” team from “Gag Concert” is doing a special skit using the Entertainment Awards as the topic. Their skit is about how there is a bomb in the hall and they have to evacuate everyone in 10mins. They then go on about how that is impossible because if they ask the “1 Night, 2 Day” team to evacuate, they will start playing “Luck of the Draw” games to see who gets to evacuate and if they go to the “Happy Together 3” team, they will start spraying them with water guns.

Update 9:

An update for the “Greatest Program” Vote. 

The current ranking is

1. Gag Concert – 43%
2. Happy Together – 28% 
3. Happy Sunday – 26%
4. Immortal Song 2 – 3%

Update 10:

Being presented by Ji Hyun Woo and Lee Yong Ja, the next award is the Comedy Scriptwriter Award and the winner is “Gag Star 2‘s” Choi Dae Hong. “Gag Star 2” is a program where new comedians come out to show off their talents and is the stepping stone to going up to KBS’s main comedy program “Gag Concert“

He mentions Kang Ho Dong and wishes that he will be here next year

The next award is the Show Variety Show Scriptwriter Award and the winner is “Win Win’s” Mo Eun Sul and “Happy Together 3’s” Jo Gi Poom

Jo Gi Poom used to be the writer for “100 Points out of 100” and mentions how she ruined the program together with Park Myung Soo, getting some funny stares from Park Myung Soo

Presented by Yoon Hyun Bin and Jung Kyung Mi, the next award is the Radio DJ award and the winner is Tae Jin Ah and Hwang Jung Min

The next award is the “Producer’s Special award‘ an award given by producers to an entertainer that they voted for. The winner is “Go! Dream Team Season 2’s” MC Lee Chang Myung.

The next award is the Comedy Greatest Idea Award, given out by Kim Kook Jin and Lee Yoon Suk. The winner is the “The guys that decide unsure things” corner from “Gag Concert”

The next award is the Greatest Entertainer Award, and the winner is Jun Hyun Moo and Uhm Tae Woong.

Update 13:

That ends the 1st part of the 2011 KBS Entertainment Awards, i’ll be spending the break adding some pictures to this article and cleaning it up a bit. The End Of Part 1 performance is SNSD “The Boys.”

KBS 2011 Entertainment Awards Part 2

Update 1:

In the 2nd part of the KBS 2011 Entertainment Awards, we will see which program gets the “Greatest Program” award and find out who wins the “Grand Award” for 2011.

The current ranking is

Update 4:

The next award is the “Best Teamwork Award.” the award is being given out by Boom and A-Pink.

And the winner of the “Best Teamwork Award‘ is the talk show “Hello.” The award is being accepted by the Producer of “Hello.”

Update 5:
The next award is the “Special Award and the Distinguished Services Award.” The award is being given out  by Lee Kyung Kyu and Park Eun Young 

And the winner of the “Special Award” is Kim Tae Won of “Qualifying Men.”

And the winner of the “Distinguished Services Award” is Cameraman Kang Chan Hee, responsible for the camerawork for a lot of programs, including “1 Night, 2 Day.”

The next award is the “Excellence Award” and the “High Excellence Award” given out by Eun Ji Won and Uee.

The first award is the “Excellence Award for Comedy (Female).” The winner is Shin Bora of “Gag Concert.”

The next award is the “Excellence Award for Comedy (Male).” and the winner is Kim Won Hyo and Choi Hyo Jung.

He is moved to tears but still has enough time to make a little joke while thanking everyone “There is soo many bloody managers.”

Update 8: 

The next award is the “High Excellence Award for Comedy (Female).” The winner is Jung Kyung Min.

Update 9:

The voting for the “Greatest Program” has now ended, and is now the awards for the “Excellence Award” and the “High Excellence Award” for Variety shows given out by Lee Seung Gi and SNSD’s Yuri.

The nominess for the female awards are Kim Kyung Ran, Park Mi Sun, Shin Bong Sun, Lee Yong Ja, Jung Eun Ah. The nominess are the same for both awards.

The winner of the “Excellence Award for Variety Show (Female)” is Kim Kyung Ran.

The nominess for the male awards are Kim Gura, Kim Seung Woo, Kim Tae Won, Park Myung Soo, Eun Ji Won, Lee Soo Geun. 

The winner of the “Excellence Award for Variety Show (Male)” is Kim Seung Woo.

He thanks his viewers and his wife, actresses Kim Nam Joo. An interesting note, he won the “Rookie Award” last year and he wins “Excellence Award” the following year. He definately seems to be doing well.

The winner of the “High Excellence Award for Variety Show (Female)” is Lee Yong Ja.

She has a hard time saying her acceptance speech due to tears of joy. She notes how she wants to give the honour of this award to the staff since they are the ones that do all the work.

The winner of the “High Excellence Award for Variety Show (Male)” is Lee Soo Geun.

He says he hopes that his wife will be healthy next year (She is currently in hospital due to complications from a kidney transplant). He also thanked Lee Kyung Kyu and all his juniors that had worked over the year. He also mentions his friend Kim Byung Man, and how they had moved up from a small house to his current status as a top comedian. He also mentions how we wishes to see Kang Ho Dong again and see his smiling face again.

Update 10:

There is now just 2 awards left, the greatest program award and the grand award.

But first a performance from “Sistar.”

Shin Dong Yub notes how Park Myung Soo‘s face lit up when Bora went down to the tables during her performance.

Head of Contents Jung Hyung Gil and Park Mi Sun will be giving out the “Greatest Program” award.

The nominees for the “Greatest Program Award” is “Happy Sunday.” “Happy Together 3,” “Immortal Song 2” and “Gag Concert.” 

The winner of the “Greatest Program Award” is “Gag Concert.”

They win the award with a massive 40% vote from viewers. It was pretty close thou, with “Happy Sunday – Qualifying Men & 1 Night, 2 Days.” closing the gap to just a 2% difference during the last couple minutes.

The award is received by the Main PD of Gag Concert. She notes how the program is 12 years old. The program could have become old and stale but she likes to thanks the viewers for their interest.

She passes it off to the most senior comedian on the team and they all say “We are Gag Concert“

Update 12:

It’s now time for the “Grand Award” and the award will be given out by KBS president Kim In Kyu and Singer IU.

And the winner of the KBS “Grand Award‘ is the whole “1 Night, 2 Days” team.

Lee Seung Gi is the first to say his speech and he thanks his seniors. Kim Jong Min mentions how everyone has suffered much and ends his speech there.Uhm Tae Woong mentions how he is lucky despite joining late.

Eun Ji Won thanks his viewers and thanks Kang Ho Dong. Lee Soo Geun mentions how he said everything already in his previous award. He mentions how they will go meet Kang Ho Dong later with the award.

Lee Seung Gi finishes off by thanking the “1 Night, 2 Days” staff.

So once again, congratulations to the “1 Night, 2 Day” team for winning the 2011 KBS Grand Award.
