Last month, the Seoul District Courts ruled in Kang Daniel’s favor in his contract dispute with LM Entertainment, in which he requested to suspend his exclusive contract with the agency. Although the company has since filed a formal objection and the date has been set for a second court questioning, the Seoul District Courts’ current ruling allows Kang Daniel to promote on his own, without any association with or interference by LM Entertainment.
In what marked his first Instagram live broadcast in five months following the completion of his promotions with Wanna One, Kang Daniel spoke about working on his upcoming solo album.
He began the broadcast by nervously introducing himself and explaining, “The reason I’m doing this live broadcast is because I wanted to greet you guys as soon as possible, rather than [wait] for an official occasion.” He jokingly added, “I wanted to quickly show you guys my face, just in case some of you had forgotten what I looked like.”
Kang Daniel proceeded to update his fans on his new music, sharing, “I am now completely in the preparation stage [for my solo debut] and am working on making music. For this [new album], I am participating in writing both the lyrics and the music, and I have been thinking a lot about how I can deliver better music and messages to you guys. Please look forward to it a lot.”
He then thanked his fans by saying, “When I was going through a hard time, you were a huge source of strength for me. Now, I will become a Daniel who can give strength to my fans.”
The singer went on, “I’ve also been thinking about and coming up with ideas for lots of different kinds of content through which I can greet you, so I would be grateful if you guys looked forward to that as well.”
At the end of the broadcast, Kang Daniel said, “I am so, so thankful that so many of you came to watch this broadcast, even though I held it so late at night in Korean time.” He added, “I now have to go work on my music. Thank you. I am always thankful for you guys. I hope you look forward to my [upcoming promotions], and I am sorry for making you wait so long. Now, I will run to you guys. See you soon.”
After coming in first place on Mnet’s “Produce 101 Season 2” in 2017, Kang Daniel promoted as a member of the project group Wanna One up until January 2019. Due to his legal dispute with LM Entertainment, he has been unable to participate in any promotions following Wanna One’s disbandment, but he is now planning to debut as a solo artist.
