"Minari" Scores 6 Nominations For 2021 BAFTA Film Awards

The EE British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Film Awards has announced its nominees for this year’s ceremony, with “Minari” up for six trophies!

The movie and its team’s nominations include Lee Isaac Chung for Best Director; Best Film Not in the English Language (Director Lee Isaac Chung, Producer Christina Oh); Youn Yuh Jung for Best Supporting Actress; Alan Kim for Best Supporting Actor; Emile Mosseri for Best Original Score; and Julia Kim for Best Casting.

“Minari” is directed by Lee Isaac Chung and stars Steven Yeun, Han Ye Ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh Jung, and Will Patton. Based on the director’s real-life experiences, the film is about a family of South Korean immigrants who try to start a new life in rural America during the 1980s.

The movie has already won for Best Motion Picture in a Foreign Language at the 78th Golden Globes, and “Minari” and Alan Kim both grabbed trophies at the 26th Critics Choice Awards last weekend. Cast members are up for three awards at the 27th Screen Actor Guild Awards, which will be held on April 4.

Previously, Park Chan Wook’s “The Handmaiden” took home the title of Best Film Not in the English Language at the 2018 BAFTA Film Awards. Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” won that award at the 2020 event, as well as the trophy for Best Original Screenplay.

The 74th BAFTA Film Awards will take place on April 11, broadcasting virtually from London’s Royal Albert Hall.
